Adventist HealthCare Offers Free Health ScreeningsBy Celeste Ryan Blyden
That’s one of the reasons a team of 55 doctors, nurses, aids, and students from Washington Adventist University and other schools spent last Sunday at WAH screening 112 community residents for various cancers. The other reason, says Judy Lichty, regional director of health and wellness for WAH’s parent company, Adventist HealthCare (AHC), is because they care. “We believe that part of our responsibility is to take care of the community and help them be as healthy as possible,” she says. “Early detection is one of the most effective ways to find and cure cancer.” This is the 19th year Lichty’s staff has offered free screenings of all types in the Washington Metropolitan area. She says they host 100 or more such screenings every year. This one included screening for breast, bladder, colorectal, oral, prostate, skin and thyroid cancers and was held in honor of Cover the Uninsured Week, a national effort. Their next free cancer screening will be held March 21 at another AHC facility, Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Gaithersburg, Md. To register, call (800) 542-5096. Walk-ins are welcome. Washington Adventist Hospital is a 288-bed, acute-care facility. It is Montgomery County’s first cardiac center, performing more than 500 open-heart surgeries and more than 6,000 heart catheterizations each year. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
