Columbia Union member Carlos Gomez is a former inmate who turned his life around. Today, the Potomac Conference Prison Ministries team leader willingly goes back inside prison walls to bring Christ, and hope, to others.

After being released from prison, I was detained at an immigration detention center in Louisiana. My biggest fear was not knowing if I’d be sent back to Colombia or allowed to remain in the United States with my family. God intervened and I was allowed to stay.

One of the happiest days in my life was when I married Carmen Vera five years ago. We have a 1-year-old son, Ricardo, who is the joy of our lives.

My wife, Carmen, and I (back row, left) pose with another couple and two inmates (front) at the Jessup (Md.) correctional facility. I am passionate about witnessing to inmates about Christ’s love.

In addition to being active in Prison Ministries, I often receive requests to speak, and give my testimony, at various churches. Here I am speaking at the Langley Park (Md.) Spanish church.
