New Jersey Conference

When the New Jersey Conference of Seventh-day Adventists was officially organized in December 1901, there were two ministers, 14 churches, and 386 members, and it was officially part of the Atlantic Union Conference. It was moved to the Columbia Union in 1907. Today there are 75 churches and over 11,000 members. Due to the influx of immigrants from Latin America and the Caribbean, the conference has a very diverse membership of English, Korean, Indonesian, Luzo-Brazilian, Hungarian, Filipino, and multiethnic congregations with Hispanic and Franco-Haitian congregations growing the fastest.

The conference operates six elementary schools and two junior high schools. Conference-owned Tranquil Valley Youth Camp in Andover, N.J., is used for youth summer camp and events year-round. The New Jersey Adventist Book Center, in Trenton, offers health items for the community. In 2004, over 800 new members joined the Adventist Church in this state. This success is due to public evangelism efforts and the conference's outreach strategy where small groups are formed to help new immigrants find friends and acclimate to life in their new country.
