Glen Burnie Community Supports Church’s 11th Run/Walk

By Jerry Scherer

The Chesapeake Conference’s Glen Burnie (Md.) church recently conducted its 11th annual 5-K run and 1-mile Fun Run/Walk. The event started in front of the church and turned onto the scenic Baltimore and Annapolis Trail. Approximately 50 runners and walkers of all ages and abilities, and plenty of volunteers, came and learned about the work of the church’s Adventist Community Services (ACS) center, and just had a good time.

Maryland State Delegate Theodore Sophocleus opened the event with a pep talk and safety briefing before the run. Anne Arundel County Executive John Robinson Leopold, an environmental activist, also came and supported the event and helped pass out awards. While there, church members gave Leopold a briefing on the ACS center and its value to the Glen Burnie community.

The church sponsors the event in order to draw attention to the work and needs of the center, which is located directly behind the church building. For more than 30 years, the center has fed the homeless, distributed clothing, and provided educational seminars to its neighbors.
