Metropolitan Church Unites Revelation and Health

By Robert Booker

Allegheny East’s Metropolitan church in Plainfield, N.J., recently got creative by connecting a health course with their weeklong Revelation seminar. While Pastor William Linthicum used colorful PowerPoint presentations to highlight the lesson studies, Shelly Patton-Lionel, health coordinator for Northern New Jersey, presented NEWSTART health practices to the 40-50 regular attendees.

During each session, an "oxygen cocktail break" would help break up the studies. Attendees would stand up and move their arms and legs for about five minutes to gospel music. Participants reported they were richly blessed, edified, and encouraged. Three individuals were baptized, and about five more are making preparations for baptism.

A week later, many of the church’s new community friends and neighbors attended the citywide health fair, held at the park across the street from the church.
