Olney Adventist Prep Holds Temperance Poster Contest

By Nichole Bromme

“Eat Healthy, Eat Right, Exercise to Get the Might!” This great admonition is one of the winning slogans for the temperance poster contest sponsored by the Children’s Ministries team at Potomac Conference’s Olney Adventist Preparatory School located in Olney, Md. The contest coincides with the Children’s Ministries winter emphasis on healthy living.

The students’ discussion on healthy living choices started during the first school chapel of the school year. Jina Kim, guest speaker from Adventist Risk Management based in Silver Spring, Md., encouraged the students to make wise temperance choices. She shared tips and stories with the students to illustrate that a drug- and alcohol-free life is the most rewarding life. The students were also encouraged to live a well-rounded life that includes healthy eating choices and plenty of exercise.

For the contest, lower school students focused on illustrating diet and exercise in their posters. The upper classmen highlighted the topic of drug and alcohol abuse. Judging was difficult, for every student did a terrific job of encouraging people to stay healthy through their poster designs. Here are the results:

Student Annabelle Suleiman won the grand prize for her creative poster, which stated, “Smoking and Drinking Will Make You Stop Thinking.”

Lower school winners were Sofia Gil, first place; Uylae Kim, second place; Sonali Prillman, third place; and Noelani Phillips, an honorable mention.

Upper School winners were Lorelle Logan, first place; Taylor Hosking, second place; Christyana Kawar, third place; and Karisa Patton, an honorable mention.
