Morten Juberg, Former Visitor Editor Dies
By Visitor Staff
Morten Juberg, communication director for the Columbia Union from 1965 to 1973, recently passed away at the age of 86. The Wyoming native served a short time as a carpenter and a pastor before turning a love of news into a lifelong career in church communication. He came to the Columbia Union after serving as public relations and Radio-TV secretary for the Southern California and Michigan conferences. While at the Columbia Union Juberg served as communication director, editor of the Visitor, and head of the Radio-TV department.
Alva Randall, former Columbia Union treasurer and a member of Atholton church in Columbia, Md., recalled that Juberg "had a good sense of humor. He had a keen sense of what was human interest."
Adrian Westney, associate director for religious liberty for the Columbia Union, said of Juberg “He had a passion for providing information geared toward strengthening the work of Adventists, which he carried on after he retired."
In 1973 Juberg moved to Washington state where he served as communication director for the North Pacific Union and later as editor of its magazine, the Gleaner.
For many years he was the self-appointed greeter for Sabbath services at the Hood View church in Boring, Ore. A number of folks have said they looked forward to coming to church to see him.
Juberg is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lorraine of Troutdale, Ore., sons Terry of Portland, Ore., and Randall of Stoneham, Mass., brother Roy Juberg of Seattle, and sister Irene Level of Ventura, Calif. Daughter Lorelee Moore preceded him by a few months in death.
