Girls Talk About Friendship

By Pennsylvania Conference

Get a bunch of girls into a room and what happens? Lots of conversation and laughter! Over 30 teen girls, their moms, and youth leaders talked and laughed all day at the recent Pennsylvania Conference Really Friends Teen Conference held at the Holiday Inn, New Cumberland, Pa.

Author and speaker Tamyra Horst created the dialogue for the day, which included the topics: What Really is a Friend? Can Boys Really be Just Friends? How to be a Really Good Friend, Really Being a Friend to Yourself, and How Can God Really be a Friend? Horst gave the girls questions to talk about in their small groups led by facilitators Kathleen Sutton, Denise Reinwald, Tracy Chirieleison, and Starla Overton. Simple activities like the listening skills experiment brought a new level to the noise and fun. At the end of the event, each person left having made a commitment to doing one new thing in taking their friendship with God deeper and with the name of a new friend attached to a Beanie Bear.

Really Friends is the second in a three-year cycle of curriculum for teen conferences created by Horst. Last year’s Really Beautiful materials will be released by AdventSource in 2009. This year’s Really Me Teen Conference will be held on October 10 at the Holiday Inn, New Cumberland, Pa.
