Adventist HealthCare President Honored for Leadership

By Thomas Grant

Bill Robertson, president and CEO of Adventist HealthCare (second from left) is presented the 2009 Outstanding Leader Award by Gigi Godwin (left), president of the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce; Darryl J. Lesesne, senior vice president of Sandy Spring Bank; and Esther Newman, founder and executive director of Leadership Montgomery.

Bill Robertson, president and chief executive officer of Adventist HealthCare in Rockville, Md., since 2000, has been named the 2009 Outstanding Leader by Leadership Montgomery. This non-profit organization brings together a diverse group of leaders from Montgomery County, Maryland, to share leadership skills, develop future leaders, and address challenges facing the county. Their Outstanding Leader Award, which recognizes, rewards, and fosters exemplary leadership affecting citizens of Montgomery County, was given to Robertson at the group’s 20th anniversary celebration last month.

"Bill joined Leadership Montgomery as a newcomer to the county and quickly learned everything he could about what makes Montgomery County unique and special,” said Esther B. Newman, founder and executive director of Leadership Montgomery. “His calm demeanor, strategic thinking, deep faith, and sense of humor make him a wonderful person to work with."

Robertson was honored for his leadership of Adventist HealthCare, the largest provider of uncompensated and charity healthcare in the county. He was also recognized for his work as chairman of the Maryland Governor’s Workforce Investment Board and his vice chairmanship of the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce.

Adventist HealthCare is currently in the process of seeking state approval to relocate its Washington Adventist Hospital to the White Oak/Calverton, Md., section of Montgomery County and turning the hospital’s current Takoma Park, Md., campus into a Village of Health and Well-Being. Adventist HealthCare is also seeking approval to build a long-planned hospital and medical campus in Clarksburg, Md.
