Treasurers Shore Up Their Skills at Fall Meetings

By Taashi Rowe

Some 60 treasurers from schools and conferences across the Columbia Union Conference recently attended a two-day Treasurer’s Council in Columbia, Md. The event has evolved from its members simply sharing year-end reports to also include training sessions. Some of presentations included a seasoned lawyer sharing information about tax liability while another spoke about asset management.

“We see this as continuing education for our treasury staff,” explains Seth Bardu, union treasurer. “We believe that a well-trained and well-equipped staff will do better work for the church overall, not just in this union.”

Edwin Rivera, a junior accountant at the New Jersey Conference, said he found the meetings interesting and informative.
