Fire at Highland View Academy Started in Clothes Dryer

The Herald-Mail newspaper is reporting that there was a fire at Chesapeake Conference's Highland View Academy in Hagerstown, Md., last night. Fire officials were alerted at about 8:15 p.m. and say the fire, which started in a clothes dryer, caused about $5,000 in damages to a cafeteria building.

School principal Deborah Pacheco Trevino says there were no injuries as almost all the students were at a basketball game off campus. Due to the lingering fumes, the cafeteria is unusable, but students are leaving for Thanksgiving break at noon today as scheduled. Trevino is working with inspectors to determine what needs to be done to get the cafeteria back in working order as soon as possible.
