Kettering College Revises Its Name

Kettering College in Kettering, Ohio, known for more than 40 years as Kettering College of Medical Arts, is updating its identity. With the omission of “Medical Arts” from their name, it will allow the school to better reflect the increasing number of programs they now offer. Today Kettering College offers certificate programs, two-year Associate of Science degrees, several bachelor degree options and a Master of Physician Assistant Studies.

“Our identity is shifting. When the college began, the only academic degree you could earn here was a two-year associate’s degree,” explains Charles Scriven, Kettering College president. “As the complexity of healthcare increases, healthcare workers need enhanced understanding and know-how in order to perform in a safe, competent and compassionate manner. Employers recognize this and are on the lookout now for better-educated employees.”

For the foreseeable future, some Associate of Science programs will remain, but always with a convenient link to an appropriate bachelor’s completion degree. “We want people to understand, without confusion, that Kettering College is a four-year and master’s degree-granting institution,” adds Scriven.
