Sligo Students Visit Ground Zero

Story by Taashi Rowe

Some 26 eighth-grade students from Potomac Conference’s Sligo Adventist School in Takoma Park, Md., and 10 adults recently visited Ground Zero, the site of the 9/11 tragedies in New York City. Teachers realized the importance of students making this trip when on a field trip to the Newseum in Washington, D.C. At the Newseum, they viewed a gallery that captures the events of 9/11.

“Most of the students were toddlers when this happened so many have no recollection of what happened,” explained Yolande Melbourne, language arts, reading and homeroom teacher. The students spent time at Ground Zero and were able to witness others paying tribute at the site and witness a memorial being built.
