Pastors Baptize 419 New Believers in India

By Celeste Ryan Blyden

Bob Banks preached in a soccer field across the road from a Hindu temple. Kevin Kuehmichel preached in someone's backyard with goats gracing the audience. Clifford Wright preached in the center of a remote village way off the beaten path. But all preached about a loving Savior who is coming again soon.

These and nearly a dozen other Columbia Union pastors (pictured), accompanied by some spouses and lay members, just returned from India where they conducted evangelism reaping meetings that brought 419 new believers to Jesus Christ. The participants---from the Allegheny East, Mountain View, Ohio, and Potomac conferences---spent two weeks ministering in 13 villages outside the South Indian city of Madurai.

This provides a beautiful example of what can happen when pastors and lay people unite with the Holy Spirit to move the kingdom of God forward, said Columbia Union president Dave Weigley who visited the participants during the series.
