Barbara Foster is a lady who knows what she wants and won’t let anything stop her. Knowing her son was a Seventh-day Adventist when he passed away, she decided she wanted what he had. So, one day she walked into the Elkins (W.Va.) church and stated, “I want to be a Seventh-day Adventist.” One of the members gladly started giving her weekly Bible studies.
Toward the end of the studies, she stated, “I want to be baptized.” Larry Carter, pastor of Elkins, tried to encourage her to wait until she finished the whole series, but she was not to be stopped. There was only one problem. Foster, a cancer survivor with a tracheostomy that made her unable to speak, writes down everything she wants to say. She wrote, “They say I have too many holes in me to be baptized, but I’m going to do it anyway!”
With extra precautions in place, and a third person to help in the tank, Foster was able to have what her heart desired. “Barbara is now a faithful church member, and everyone at the church loves her,” states Carter. “She always has a happy, uplifting spirit and gives me a hug every time I see her. We are blessed to have her in our congregation.”
