Mountain View Conference Elects Walter Cardenas as Executive Secretary

Yasmi and Walter Cardenas

Story by Liz Bailey

Delegates to the Mountain View Conference (MTV) Executive Committee recently elected Walter Cardenas to serve as executive secretary, a position formerly held by Victor Zill, conference treasurer.

“Pastor Cardenas is a servant leader who is already highly respected by our entire team, both in the office and by our pastors and teachers,” states Tim Bailey, conference president. “His skills and love for our people make him a logical choice to serve our Lord and our constituents. We are very pleased that he has accepted this new role in our conference.”

Born in Honduras, Cardenas graduated from George Mason University (Va.) with a Bachelor of Science in Network Administration and earned a Master of Pastoral Ministry from Andrews University (Mich.).

In November 2007, he joined the conference as a Bible worker and church planter, where he planted the Moorefield (W.Va.) Spanish church and began working with Spanish-speaking communities in Lewisburg and Morgantown. Through the years, he has served as a district pastor, conference youth director, summer camp director, Hispanic Ministries director, and assistant to the president—the role he most recently held.

Cardenas states that he is especially committed to helping churches become centers of excellence in worship, outreach and community impact. His ministry reflects his strong desire to see lives transformed through intentional discipleship and a deeper relationship with Jesus.

Above all, his greatest joy is his family. He is a devoted husband to his wife, Yasmi, and the proud father of three wonderful children who continue to inspire his faith and ministry every day.

“As the conference treasurer who has also held the executive secretary position for quite a number of years,” states Zill, “I am very excited to welcome Pastor Cardenas as the new executive secretary of our conference. I have worked with him for about 18 years and have witnessed him in the many various positions he has held. He has many fine leadership qualities, and I am certain that he will be a great blessing to our conference and the Seventh-day Adventist Church as a whole.”
