Story by Evan Knott

Wilmington Junior Academy (Del.) recently marked a historic milestone, celebrating 100 years of Seventh-day Adventist education. All festivities were held at the West Wilmington (Del.) church. The celebration began with a Friday night vespers service and dinner, and continued on Sabbath with a special worship service and fellowship luncheon. Students played a central role in the Sabbath program, including the school’s choir.

Andre Hastick, Chesapeake Conference president, and Janesta Walker, superintendent of schools, were both present to offer congratulatory remarks. Elvis Mogoi, senior pastor of Baltimore- White Marsh church and former senior pastor of West Wilmington, served as the guest speaker.

“For 100 years, Wilmington Junior Academy has been shaping minds and nurturing faith,” says Hastick. “As we celebrate this magnificent milestone, we reaffirm our commitment to Adventist education—not only as a program we support but as a mission we believe in.”

Walker notes that sustaining Adventist education for a century is seldom achieved. “Celebrating 100 years of continual operations for a Seventh-day Adventist school is a very rare occurrence,” she says, “and we are so proud of Wilmington Junior Academy for the strong work they are doing in educating children and youth for eternity.”
