After a particularly rainy spring and summer, in which The Washington Post reported the D.C. area received nearly a year’s worth of rain during the first seven months of the year, followed by significant rainfall from the remnants of Hurricane Florence, Washington Adventist University in Takoma Park, Md., recently had Halcyon Hall, the women’s residence, and other buildings tested for mildew and mold by a board certified industrial hygienist.

Washington Adventist University has been selected by the Maryland Clinical Simulation Resource Consortium (MCSRC) to receive a 2018 Equipment & Materials Award in the amount of $248, 565.94.The award is for the acquisition of three medical simulation mannequins to be used in WAU's nursing instruction programs.

The mannequins include VICTORIA, an advanced birthing simulator.WAU's VICTORIA model will include a deep-vein Thrombosis leg option to enhance WAU nursing students' preparation for this common but dangerous pregnancy complication.The award also includes a SimBaby MK II Tetherless Mannequin and Nursing Anne Simulator which will enable students to practice a wide range of competencies.

More than 2,000 listeners recently hit the beach to join WGTS 91.9 on the “2018 Ice Cream Tour,” as it landed in North Beach, Md. The WGTS Service Gateway team spent time meeting listeners at a brand new beach pavilion on the boardwalk. They set up games, giveaways, a broadcast area and an ice cream station. Hosts Johnny and Stacey Stone, along with Tom Miner, broadcasted their afternoon show live from the event.

WGTS 91.9 is transitioning from Washington Adventist University (WAU) to a separate nonprofit entity. Pending approval by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), it will soon be owned and operated by a new corporation called Atlantic Gateway Communications, Inc. (AGC), which has been incorporated specifically for this purpose.

On May 9, 2018, the WAU Board of Trustees voted to divest itself of the station’s operating license for $12 million. Pending FCC approval, the purchase will be completed sometime this fall with all assets transferring to the newly formed nonprofit, AGC.
