Potomac Conference

This weekend Potomac Conference’s Sligo church in Takoma Park, Md., is hosting their Homecoming 2016 Weekend featuring Ron Halvorsen Jr., as the Sabbath morning speaker and Point of Grace as the featured musicians.

Halverson, former Sligo senior pastor, is the president of the Ohio Conference. Point of Grace, a Dove Award winning Christian trio, will sing during the 11 a.m. service and provide a free 6 p.m. concert at the church.

All service attendees will be provided with a Sligo sticker that will allow them to each lunch at the international luncheon at the Takoma Academy Gymnasium.  The weekend will end with the Annual Tennis Tournament on Sunday morning.

For half a century, nowhere has embodied the phrase “so near, and yet so far” for Americans more than Cuba.

Cuba is only 93 miles from Key West, Fla., but for the average American, for decades it may as well have been on Mars. Home to 11 million people, the Caribbean island nation is the size of Virginia. Due to the travel and trade embargo imposed by the United States since the early 1960s, Cuba’s colorful and dynamic culture, and its turbulent political scene have been shut out from much of the world.

Addressing the Silence

More than a 1,000 Seventh-day Adventists gathered in Washington, D.C.(watch the entire video here), last weekend to pray, mourn and acknowledge the killing of two black American men and five Dallas police officers. 

Bob Mitchell, Potomac Conference Adventist Community Services and Disaster Relief coordinator released this statement today:

As you have probably seen on the news and weather reports, there is MAJOR flooding in West Virginia.  Forty-four counties have been put under a disaster declaration.  Our Columbia Union ACS DR Coordinator has been contracted by the Mountain View Conference to possibly provide trained ACS DR volunteers to serve in the process of collecting, warehousing, and distribution of emergency supplies.

Several counties in Western and Southwestern Virginia have also been flooded.  Traffic on I-64 in western Virginia is being controlled by the state police.
