This summer, Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center team members welcomed the first patients into the hospital’s new Horizon Tower. The enhanced emergency and critical care spaces are an investment years in the making and a powerful addition to the system’s modern, community-centered healthcare.

At a ribbon cutting on June 5, hospital leaders, physicians, nurses, community partners and donors helped dedicate the much-anticipated six-story building.

After hearing “you have cancer,” patients often want to begin treatment without a long wait.

Adventist HealthCare White Oak Cancer Center and Shady Grove Aquilino Cancer Center, in partnership with Maryland Oncology Hematology, are advancing and accelerating patient care with the launch of a lab for next generation sequencing (NGS) – one of only a few labs integrated into a physician practice in the United States.

Adventist HealthCare is proud to announce a new Pharmacy Technician Training Program – a triple-win initiative that helps alleviate a national shortage of pharmacy techs, empowers professional development and builds a strong pipeline of candidates to meet the needs of Adventist HealthCare patients and providers.

The six-week program is designed to hire and train retail pharmacy technicians to expand their skills in order to work with a broader range of medicines, compound sterile and IV medications, assist with medical history documentation, participate in clinical rounds, and collaborate with the healthcare team. The pharmacy techs are then positioned to strengthen patient care and also help optimize health outcomes after patients return to their homes.
